An interview with Author, Speaker, and Motivational Self-worth Coach Shalonda "Treasure" Williams

"Who Says That Who You Are & What You Desire Are Not Good Enough?
It Is Time To Know Yourself! Love Yourself! Honor Yourself! Be Yourself! Now, Let's 'GO'!"
-Shalonda "Treasure" Williams

Motivational self-worth coach and author Shalonda “Treasure” Williams is in the 'GO' position and she wants you to get in the 'GO' positon too. In fact, Shalonda has made it her purpose to help lift others to their 'GO' position, which for Shalonda, stands for “Get over and get on with life”. Her fourth and latest Book Let's 'GO': Get Over Get On With Life, due in January, 2011, inspires and challenges us to do just that. Shalonda's first three books, Love Walk Motivations: Back to the Basics, PurposeFull You, and A Heart's Thoughts, are insightful introductions to Shalonda's unique blend of spirituality and compassionate motivation.

As the youngest of eleven siblings, Shalonda's background has deeply shaped her commitment to discovering her value and her desire to help others find their unique purpose. From an early age Shalonda noticed a quality in the human spirit that transcends circumstance. While watching her mother work long hours as a librarian she was often angry when, depite her mother's hard work, her family could not afford many material luxuries. But Shalonda noticed there were deeper and more important factors keeping a smile on her mother's face, and she sought to discover what those factors were. Her father's career as a pastor helped to shape Shalonda's spiritual outlook and belief in a higher power. Shalonda brings these experiences to her career as a motivational self-worth coach and to her role as the mother of four children. With four books under her belt, and an intense passion to help others Savannah, Georgia native Shalonda “Treasure” Williams is in the 'GO' position. Preorder Shalonda's latest work Let's 'GO': Get Over Get On With Life here.

"Peace is about finding yourself and being okay with you. When you can do that,

everything else begins to make sense; things begin to fall into place." - Shalonda "Treasure" Williams

LL- What are your most joyful and profound visions for your life?
STW- When I'm sitting, in my quiet time, thinking about my life and the way I want it to look in the next five or ten years, it all gives me such a joyful feeling. I can literally see those people that have been impacted by my gifts in some way. I can see them excelling in their goals. I can see happy relationships. I can see people shaking my hand at a conference and telling me how much what I said helped them. Then I can see those same people living out what they got from me and it brings such a huge smile to my face. At the end of the day, when I'm relaxing comfortably with my family, we are thanking and praising Our Great Creator for speaking, coaching, & writing through me and being thankful for the fact that the joy I am trying to help others get, we feel.

LL- What inspires you as a writer?
STW- Words in books, commercials, speeches, testimonies about triumphs and victories, encounters with people on a daily basis and their stories... All these things inspire me as a writer. I remember hearing a speech or reading something profound in a book. The words have such an impact on my life. Before I write I ask The Divine Source to write through me. I can literally see a person getting a revelation while reading the words. I'm inspired by the knowledge that what I write is for someone, even if just one!

LL- How do you choose what you'd like to write about?
STW- Usually what I write about comes to me as revelation. I remember exactly how the book I am working on now came to me. It was after meditation and I was sitting at the computer trying to wait for a strategy to promote the books. I started designing my webpage and I said that I was here to help get others to the Go position. Then something in me stopped me at the word Go. I looked at it, grabbed a notebook and began to write down what I heard, spiritually. Not only was it being made plain to me what I was purposed to do, I was getting a new book. SO, I wrote down the words "Let's Go", then it became a little more specific. Make both letters in the word Go, capital. So, I did. "Let's 'GO'. Then I started feeling that GO meant something. It meant Get Over. So, then it was "Let's 'GO': Get Over to Get On with life. Whew! It hits me like Bam, Bam, Bam! And then I have to follow.

LL- What do you aim to accomplish with your work?
STW- I aim to accomplish whatever I'm supposed to. What I mean is every assignment will be different. I know the main thing for me is loving others enough to want to encourage and motivate them to do and feel better. But, the accomplishment for each individual assignment  may be a variety of things. It could be to impact a nation. It could be to bring an awareness to a specific issue. It could be to simply release something within me onto paper. It just depends on how I'm led.

LL- How many books do you plan you write?
STW- As many as I can pump out! (lol) I want to write things that will reach and/or heal others; pump them up, so I am ready to have as many best sellers as I can.

LL- How do you prepare yourself for public speaking?
STW- I pray! Honestly, I love to talk, so that's not the hard part to prepare for. The preparation for me is about simply praying and asking for guidance and jotting down a few hot points, but allowing everything else to flow naturally. I also listen to others that motivate. It pumps me to hear someone else say, "You can do it! You don't have to shy away from your purpose. You don't have to fear what the world will say or do. You only have to act!" Whew! That just totally lights a fire under me! Les Brown, Maya Angelou, even T.D Jakes... those with a commanding voice that can tell you about their experiences so when they say, "You Can Do It!" you know that You Can Do It! No doubts. Then I know that's what I'm about to do!

LL- How has your self exploration and commitment to your creative work effected your relationships with your children?
STW- Honestly, I am still a work in progress with my babies. I have, however grown as a mother in the way of trying to adjust certain old habits. I used to discipline them at the drop of the dime just because that was what I thought was the right thing to do so they wouldn't run over me. I then had to ask for guidance on how to show them the unconditional love I wanted the world to see in me. I didn't want to be a hypocrite, so I began to watch more carefully how I handled them. I began to think about how I felt as a child when certain things were said or done. They are people too... grown up or not.

LL- What qualities and attributes did you observe within and about yourself that were clues to the career you'd like to create?
STW- I am always the "go to" person. I am the one that others trust to help them work out an issue. I realized, after a while, that I had to stop looking for a career. I am already equipped with the things inside of me that I need to fulfill my purpose. My career would line up with those things. I went to school and tried a number of things but none of them fit me. I then had to think about those natural strengths and talents and make them work for me. I have always loved to write. I have a natural gift of writing a story that, with added skills, would become a great novel. I was always the confidant and advice person. I would ask the hard questions that a person may not have thought of or didn't want to face. This led right into my job as a life coach. A real person that loves you enough to ask the right questions. I want to see people succeed and be happy!

LL- What does it mean to be a Motivational Self-Worth Coach and how did you get into this particular type of life coaching?

STW- Motivational Self-Worth Coaching is a form of life coaching that allows me to work hands on with others who, like me, want to increase their self-value. I spent over 15 years finding my TRUE value. I used to be the girl who was always looking for outside validation. I wanted men to tell me I was worth loving. I looked for every prophet to confirm that I was called of God. I needed everyone else to tell me that I was something special and unique. The truth is that I have been "valid" since my creation. This is what I am determined to help others see. I choose this particular type of life coaching for a very good reason. I feel that if a person can increase their self-worth, self-love, self-esteem and overall self-perception, they can, then, walk into their purpose with much confidence and assurance. Honestly, how can you fulfill your dreams if you don't believe that you have the capacity to do so?

LL- What advice can you offer to other mothers striving to balance family life and creative career goals?
STW- Schedule what you can and stick to it. They are not small forever and to think that you can make up the time later is not truth. To think that you have to work three jobs to provide for them and that is your job, be careful. Trust that the Creator will provide all your needs and then remember that it matters what we do now. They are watching us and they don't just need material things, they need our love and guidance. I get caught up sometimes in work so much that I have to regroup. I know what I'm working toward is important for our future,  but what if they are already too old for me to get our relationship right when I finally reach my goals. They need us now. So, pray for balance.

LL- In your opinion, what is the best way a community can support an entrepreneur, artist, writer or creative person?
STW- Support them before they have a "big" name status. Support what they are doing at ground level. If the community puts their support to work at that point in the person's career, they can probably see heights unknown and sow back into that community later. To me, there is nothing worse than people that are so superficial that they have to wait until you are famous to support you. It's backward to me; it's like they fail to see that even those famous people had to start small. Support your people at the ground level, and sit back and be proud as you see them grow.

LL- What are some challenges you have faced that have turned out to be blessings preparing you for your life's work?
STW- I took on the challenge of being self published and building my own business. Every lesson along the way has been a blessing. I continue to be humble and pure in my motives and it gets easier everyday. It is a challenge when no one knows your name and they don't trust in you. It is a challenge to win that trust and let them know that your motives are pure and that you are not just trying to make a buck. It is a challenge, but with every one email I get that says that someone was motivated to press on, I feel blessed. This is preparing me to understand that not everything will be smooth. I am learning how to get through those times with my peace intact, challenges and all.

LL- What's next for you?
STW- I am reaching for the stars. I will strive to be the best life coach, motivational speaker, author, and business owner that I can. I know if I do that I will manifest all I desire.
